How You Can Help the Environment (without going zero waste)

Earlier this week, I wrote about how I’ve been working to create as little waste as possible. As Earth Day approaches, I’m hoping this is something that others are thinking about, too. I know I mentioned many drastic things in my previous post, but not everybody isย perfectly situated to make the lifestyle changes that I made.

Many people don’t have the time or money or energy to transition into a completely new lifestyle this way. However, I would like to request that you consider trying to make some of these smaller changes.

My Journey of Becoming Zero Waste (so far)

DSC_0132

When I was about 10 years old, my middle school started a recycling program for paper. Although I think many of my peers didn’t think much of it, I took the concept to heart, and I started smuggling all of my household’s paper trash to school so that I could dispose of it in the classroom recycling bin.

A Photo Tour of the Mead Gardens Wildlife

Nestled in a quiet area of Winter Park, a city just north of Orlando, is Mead Botanical Gardens. When I first visited this gem in 2015, I immediately knew I wanted to spend more time here, but it wasn’t until the spring of 2017, when I lived a little closer, that I went back for my second visit.

My Wintry Week in Ohio

After saying goodbye to Florida and dropping through Alabama for a few days, it was time to go to Ohio. My last visit had been over the summer of last year, during which I complained a lot about how it was TOO COLD; despite the fact that I spent the first 19 years of my life in Ohio, I never adapted to the cold, and I very much feel like a true Floridian, putting on a sweatshirt the moment it drops below 80F. I started this February trip with the knowledge that I was going to be miserable, but that I only had to survive for a week until I was on my way to the tropics!

A Vegan Feast with Chef TJ

Is it silly to have a bucket list item revolving around vegan food? Maybe so, but that didn’t stop me from spending years drooling over the idea of having Chef TJ cook his famous multi-course vegan food for me!

Photo Essay: Celebration, Florida

I first fell in love with the perfect little town of Celebration three years ago. For a while, I was visiting it as often as I could, but then eventually I lived there for about a year and a half. Although I’ve spent so much time walking around my little town with a camera, I don’t have a lot to say about Celebration other than what I said in my original post, in which I gushed about how perfect it is. (Unless you count this cheesy little video I made from one of my nature walks there.)

April 2017 – March 2018: What I’ve Been Up To

40856324591_fa29f370c6_k

A year ago, I was experiencing some of the worst times of my life. I was struggling with mental and physical health, and I was not feeling comfortable in my career. I loved my students but was so burnt out from the challenges of teaching and being a team leader. Even living just outside Disney World was not much of a silver lining, because I often didn’t have the time or the energy to spend time there. I stopped attempting to update my blog because I had started to hate writing as much as my students did. I promise, I’m in a much happier place right now, but I think it’s worth recording some of the challenges and highlights of my past year.

2017 runDisney Star Wars Half Marathon

Oops, I wrote this post last April and apparently forgot to publish it! Better late than never!

After the excitement of my first Star Wars half marathon last year, I knew I wanted to do it again this year. I figured that if I did it once, I could do it again, potentially even faster the second time.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2017

First visit

Although I went to the first Halloween party of the year on 25 August, I wanted to wait and write a post in case I had a chance to go to another party and get better pictures and videos. Maybe one year, I’ll have the time and money to attend more than one of Magic Kingdom’s Halloween parties, but 2017 was not that year!
