I visited my grandparents in Bradenton a few weeks ago and took advantage of a sunny Saturday afternoon to explore one of my favorite places in the area, Palma Sola Botanical Park.

Despite being fairly small compared to some of the other parks and preserves, I love Palma Sola because you can easily walk around the entire park and see what’s in bloom, which obviously varies a lot throughout the year.

My favorite time to visit is when the water lilies are in bloom. But you won’t see those in late January. Instead, here’s what I did see on my little walk.

An abundance of lizards.

It doesn’t even take an hour to walk around all the little paths at Palma Sola, but the wildlife is so concentrated that it’s well worth a stop to see what’s in bloom or what you’ll find scurrying among the flowers. If you find yourself in Bradenton with a free afternoon, get yourself to Palma Sola Botanical Park and say hello to all the funky flowers for me!
