A Ray of Sunshine in Cloudy Cincinnati

It’s pretty well established that I’m not a fan of cold climates. However, two sure things that can make me suck it up and endure the shivering are the city of Cincinnati and following my darling sister around with a camera. I had recently taken her photos on Anna Maria Island, and this would be the second time I’d have the pleasure of capturing her during our sister shenanigans.

My Wintry Week in Ohio

After saying goodbye to Florida and dropping through Alabama for a few days, it was time to go to Ohio. My last visit had been over the summer of last year, during which I complained a lot about how it was TOO COLD; despite the fact that I spent the first 19 years of my life in Ohio, I never adapted to the cold, and I very much feel like a true Floridian, putting on a sweatshirt the moment it drops below 80F. I started this February trip with the knowledge that I was going to be miserable, but that I only had to survive for a week until I was on my way to the tropics!

An Evening in Wapakoneta

DSC_0166

Almost 3 years ago, I decided to see more of the county where I grew up. My favorite discovery was Wapakoneta, where I admired the well-preserved architecture, visited the Neil Armstrong museum, and explored the awe-inspiring Temple of Tolerance. I’ve been wanting to go back for another visit ever since that day.

Returning to My Beloved Cincinnati

DSC_0012

For more than a year and a half–ever since I moved to Florida–I have been wanting to visit Ohio. I made plans to return on almost every break I’ve had, but something always came up and I always ended up just staying in Florida for my holidays.

Monthly Update: October 2014

Once more, I’ve gone far too long without updating this website. Despite not having made many plans for my time back in the US, I ended up traveling much more than I realized I would. So, without further ado, here is what kept me so busy for all of last month!

Monthly Update: September 2014

“Remember that time when we had websites?” Josh joked a few minutes ago.

So here we are in Savannah, Georgia, taking a break from everything else for a few hours to sit at our laptops so we can each write a post. And since we’re already two weeks into October, I figured my update from last month is long overdue.

Cincinnati, I Miss You

I have to admit that my work schedule over the past few weeks has been less than ideal, and an exhausting visa-renewal trip to Singapore a few days ago has left me wiped out and feeling more homesick than usual. While I love teaching here and I know I’m incredibly lucky to be living abroad, that doesn’t stop me from missing a lot of things back in Cincinnati.

Wapakoneta, Ohio: A City Full of Surprises

Corn

I grew up in a rural area of Ohio, but it wasn’t until recently that I started to really appreciate all of the beauty that surrounds the village I grew up in. Small storybook villages rise up from fields of corn and soybeans, and picturesque silos and red barns separate one field from another. Forests, lakes, and canals are also scattered through the quiet countryside.
