April 2017 – March 2018: What I’ve Been Up To

A year ago, I was experiencing some of the worst times of my life. I was struggling with mental and physical health, and I was not feeling comfortable in my career. I loved my students but was so burnt out from the challenges of teaching and being a team leader. Even living just outside Disney World was not much of a silver lining, because I often didn’t have the time or the energy to spend time there. I stopped attempting to update my blog because I had started to hate writing as much as my students did. I promise, I’m in a much happier place right now, but I think it’s worth recording some of the challenges and highlights of my past year.

After a full month of road tripping in July, I was happy to be back in Florida, but the adventures slammed to a halt at the beginning of August when it was time to go back to school.

Life Update: Job Offers, Disney, and Bike Rides

Water Lilies

Okay, I’m making myself sit down, take a break from stressing out about orchestrating all the details of my life, and just write something. So this post might read more like a stream-of-conscious journal entry, but if you were wondering where I’ve been for the past several months, then read on, my friends!

Monthly Update: August 2014

English First School

My contract with EF ended today, and I have 3 days left here in Indonesia. It’s been an exceptionally routine month: morning classes, home, afternoon classes, home, eat, sleep, repeat. As I’ve enjoyed the last stretch of being an English teacher in Indonesia, I’ve been plagued by an unexpected and recurring thought:

I’m not ready!

Monthly Update: July 2014

Idul Fitri Fireworks

This month’s update is coming to you from Yogyakarta! Josh and I loved it here so much when we came here in December that we decided to come back here for our last holiday and to celebrate Josh’s 25th birthday. It’s been an excellent trip so far, and I’ll have some Yogya posts coming up over the next few weeks! For now, here’s my July wrap-up.

Monthly Update: June 2014

Indonesian Puppets

I opted to skip last month’s update since I spent most of May in bed with dengue fever and didn’t get to see very much of Indonesia except for the inside of a hospital. I was back on my feet for most of June, so here’s what I got up to this month.

Monthly Update: March 2014

Sunset from the Roof

Happy April, everybody! March passed by in a flash for me, and now I’m already a week into my eighth month working at EF. Time is passing more quickly than ever! In March, I had a one-day trip into Singapore to renew my work visa, and Josh and I made our way into Jakarta a few times. It hasn’t been much an exciting month for either of us, but we’ve enjoyed ourselves.

Monthly Update: February 2014

Grasshopper

It’s hard to believe it’s already March, and that I’m entering my seventh month in Indonesia! February has zoomed by too quickly, but here’s a quick summary of what’s been happening over the past few weeks.

Monthly Update: January 2014

My fifth month working at EF has flown by. It’s hard to believe that it’s been a month already since Josh and I got home from our Tropical Christmas trip! I still have plenty more to write about that, but for now, here’s what I got up to in January.
